Tuesday Snow

How best to start a snowy morning when most local schools have canceled?

Breakfast with Principal.

And fulfilling the dreams of a girl and her desire for her doll:
The Making of Rebecca's church dress.

And sending Mascot into space, even though the clouds created a difficult launch...

And because God has given the opportunity to NOT have school when the day arises with other duties and blessings, the choice was to continue our learning on this, a snow day.

Even though others wanted to sew straight through the day, we tried to remind ourselves to do everything without complaining, but sometimes faces showed it...

Sit-ups and stretches in P.E. have become a group activity, as Mascot tries his hand at them.

And also taking a hand from Student and Warrior, he accomplishes 5 sit-ups!

The Homeschool was determined to find something to use as a weight for our marching through the orchard game, but resolved not to use Mascot's recommendation of an apple sauce jar.

Contiuing Cursive visual recognition and Writing for Warrior, the 26 letter-long journey is only 6 letters along.

Taking time also for snowday gaming, Warrior continues his latest love of crazy eight cards.

God is good, so good to us. May He grant that these children would learn responsibility, for each should carry his own load. Galatians 6:5 Teacher soooo could have stayed ikn bed, but may He bless our work, all the work of our hands, indeed. Amen.

Warrior Tuesday

Warrior had a little oral test today tht challenged his critical thinking, and it goes something like this...

Name something that...
Floats: boat
Swims: person
Slides: person on a slide
Is that correct?!
Squishes: jelly
Cracks: crab
Cools: water
Drips: water
Runs: bathtub
Rolls: wheel
Cuts: scissors
Spins: spinner

Gotta love the Creator's style in differing brains! Glory to God for Warrior's cognitive development! Only His plan is the perfect one.

Student finished Mattie Mae and looks forward to continued Reading this summer. She talked about the book naming Jesus, and how it was good to find that in a book! You know, they are Amish, and so...that got us to talking about their practiced and beliefs, and Student remarked:
I'm glad my parents know Jesus and that they admit when they are wrong so I learn about forgiveness and know we need to do that.

And a Science project that Student began today, will bless the Homeschool for years to come.

Seeds to seedlings to sunflowers!
Student's Hypothesis:
I think it will take 3 days of wetness to bring the seeds to sprout o we can plant them.

So then, Friday, our official last day of school, we'll unveil the findings!

As for other learning, today, Student laid back for some flashcards and painted-pampering!

Studying the travels, imprisonment, and letters of Paul, we are growing in anticipation for the book of Revelation.

Off into the afternoon for park fun with friends, the Homeschool had just one stop to make first...

Babies of furry composition that came with quite the smell! Student held her breath as she showed Mascot the lil guys!

Deut 7:13
He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that he swore to your forefathers to give you.

The Homeschool stands on this promise as we see His words are true & delivered even through the winged-creations! Thank you God!

Make a Difference Monday

Making a difference in our local community, for our and other uninsured families, is a Christ-centered Health Clinic. We are so thankful for their commitment to bring healthcare in the name of Jesus, so cookies they were given! Our card of thanks included a verse quite familiar to the daily duties of the Homeschool:
Eccles 9:10
"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

Also sending cookies to Pap M and Principal's coworkers, the snickerdoodles and chocolate chip cookies went fast!

Student turned the tables on Teacher and read our first lesson from the Holy Bible today, reading aloud the Gospel accounts of the sower. Teacher picked up with the death of John the Baptist. This was the first Bible Teacher had seen with an illustration, and though it was not in great detail, the blood was evident, and enough for a girl reader, that is!

Writing was timely with the soon migration of the monarchs through the midwest, as Student wrote her butterfly story like this:
Title: Sally's Butterfly
One day Sally saw something. Look! Look! Look Mama?
what is this? oh! that is a caterpiller. Look Sally it crawls. can we pute it in a jar? why yes lets do that yah! the next day Look Wawa at 500! In the morning! What Sally look Look what is in the jar. that is a chrysalis the catapillar goes in and turns into a butterfly! By Student

Finishing up seatwork wih the introduction of subtracting 2 digit numbers, Stduent took quite an extended time to do so. She understood well, Teacher just had to offer some tree-climing time for motivation!

World History brought us to Islam. Teacher thought it disturbing how a first grade classroom would normally be subjected to such a History without the inclusion of the Bible. We went back to the decisions of Abraham and Sarah and Hagar. We also learned about the flag symbols, the solar calendar and the practice of fasting for Ramadan. We both read that not even water was aloud for the month. No food, no water even...you would die! Student and Teacher were just sure that their month must not be as long as ours, but we found that they have 12 months a year and each is approximately 3o days, as well. So, this was confusing. Also learning about their flag symbols and green colored turbans thought to be worn in paradise, the ending thoughts from Student were this:
It's sad that Jerusalem isn't a city of God anymore. Cool that it will one day be the NEW JERUSALEM!

Outdoors in the almost-spring sunshine, Warrior helped collect trash from the foliage in the backyard. He squealed with delight at the presence of the Resurrection Lilies and said, Everything is new!

We began to learn about and prepare the garden. Warrior, under close adult supervision during Mascot's nap, helped with clipping the old vines to make room for the new in the flower bed next to the garage.

Mascot didn't want Student to be the only one reading, so he came inside from the sun to read, too.

Ending the Homeschool day with a wish, we head to the great outdoors yet again, for it was Warrior that got his wish with the beginning of daylight saving time: more outdoor time!

Wednesday Wandering

Away from the Homeschool, the Rec Center hosted us for an am playdate. Warrior and Student took turns kicking goals and playing with lil friend. They were not believing Teacher that soon Mascot would be in such a walking stage! The anticipation is growing in them!

After Activity of running, soccer, rope-yanking, arguing and and snacking, we headed back to Homeschool for some anaerobic activity. Anaerobic activity in celebration of Dr. Seuss this week SHOULD have consisted of Reading, that's the logical idea anyhow. Well, no offense to the grreat writer, the kids chose to watch Grenn Eggs & Ham, instead. Not that we don't readily read his writings on a weekly basis, I think THAT'S the deal, they are too familiar. They wanted something new, and NEW meant Youtube's delivering of the Seuss video. All enjoyed and then chose to read a recent find from the local library:
Pirate Bob.

Mascot enjoyed trying to touch the scar than ran from Bob's nose-tip to his ear-top. The illustrations and truths of the immoral and uncertain lives of such living choices. As well as the untrustworthy people surrounding such a pirate, we were reminded of our choices on earth of friends and doings are of eternal importance. WOW! Warrior may not have thought he'd get a life lesson from his reading pick, but Student on the other hand, is ALWAYS on the look out for one!

So much for anaerobic activity on a sunshiny pre-spring day...off to the neighborhood park we went. Meant to read and have a Bible lesson, but time slipped away and even Veronica enjoyed our afternoon out!

Our only other activity was outdoor Art.
Student created faces as Warrior burned rubber over her designs...

Math settled our afternoon into the evening. Student expanded her coin practice to subtracting groups of them. Other than review, our day was officially over.

Proverbs 4:7
"Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, a]">[a] get understanding."

Tuesday Hospitality

What better way to start the day than with a lesson in hospitality?

Our dear sister-friends came to play! Warrior was full of helpful acts and thoughtful questions...
"Do you like Spiderman?
Do you like hunting?
Do you like guns?
Do you like this?"
And her polite 2-year-old answer was steadily, "Yes!".

And her lil sis was the prize of the day for Student. She weighs less than Mascot and is better balanced so Student packed her around from place to place. Loving and talking and hugging on her lil sis all the morning long!

Snack time came and went along with the banana chocolate chip muffins...

Teacher isn't sure what is going on with the steady muffin-making around the Homeschool, but as long as the eating is steady we will keep baking them! Warrior needed time away from the delicate-sweet-flowers playing gently in the Homeschool living room anyway...so into the kitchen he came to stir up a muffin storm!

Thankful for God's provision of sunshine today, Student spent time watering the newest batch of crocus to peak through the soil. Warrior spent time battling trees and toys, aka: bad pirates, in the backyard. It was Teacher who was left to the dirty work. After Principal ate lunch and played baseball with the Homeschool, he headed back to work and Teacher headed out to the hose.

The hose was the cleanest part of the dirty camping bin that had been discovered prior to the last few snow sorms. It contained lost potatoes and swarms of....well, a SURPRISE SCIENCE EXPERIMENT from last JULY! Once discovered, Teacher put it in the freezing outdoors to kill the living surprises that had hatched...so with water, fire and oil, the Homeschool is now ready for the next camping trip once spring hits! As Teacher tries to snap shots of daily activity, the only SAFE & FRIENDLY photo of this excursion was the after the fire and water and oil, as the pans sat quietly in the sun to soak in the oil.

Other safer and quieter happenings of the homeschool today consisted of Bible, Computer and Reading time. Student's latest favorite site to visit has brought new meaning to virtuousruby.

Our day of other-than-book learning was welcomed without grumbling by anyone...
1Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Final Friday

Why homeschool? What is our purpose?

In the state of Kansas one must register their homeschool as a private learning institution, legally. And that institution needs a name and a purpose. Well, today I had a prompting from the Holy Spirit about our purpose.

After sharing some books this morning, we peddled our 1 mile ride today at the Manner. The kiddos love the freedom and I love the safety! But, to get home again, we passed the home of a widow we know. Miss Margaret. She used to be an active part of our lives when Student was younger. We worked in Weekday Bible School together for the public schools, back in the day. We used to remember her often and visit regularly.

Well, our priorities have somewhere been lost. In comes Final Friday!

In a close-by metropolitan area, Final Friday is a reason to have Art socials, drinking brigades and music played all-through-the-night just to glorify the world. However, our version of Final Friday will be for His glory...the whole purpose of homeschooling. Thus, Final Friday will be our realization to care for orphans and widows. What if this were our Final Friday to complete this service for The Lord? We shall act on this command of our religion today, and each Final Friday we are given.

We will make our way back to Miss Margaret's place and with us bring blessings of music and cards! May Student's music bless all in His name.

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Field Day

What can mix-up a hump day with fun and adventure? A day of recreation with Dad.
Aka: principal!

Physical education is always welcomed in our family. Outdoor activities are treasured most, and the weather has been just such a blessing that we have spent much time out doing such. Golf ranks highest among most of the family members, and the cart ranks highest for the other family members! Everyone wins with golf!

And indoor time with Principal? Oh yes, iphone Art, computer time and reading. All done in the ways of a Daddy and his Daughter. Student loves homeschool with Dad, and his perspectives.

Proverbs 17:6 "Children's children are a crown of old men,(grandparents) and the glory of children is their father."

Sew School

Sewing, after the sorting of course! Student helped arrange the scrap strips into piles sorted by color. ROY G. BIV, ya know. Picking which strip pairs with which, and assisting with the roller-cutting, we are on our way to sewing a baby quilt. We will surely complete it in 11 weeks...right?!

Off to VBS to share her verse Student is all-Summered -out this week!

We had much heat and water at the water park today with friends. There wasn't any denying that Summer is here.

Student: Genesis 1:31
God saw all that He created, and it was very good.

Give Us This Day

A rainy day spent reading...and baking!

Bible Time lesson was about Baking the Daily Bread. Student and Summer Pupil learned about this task and wrote down key words in their tablets. Even the Toddler correctly pronounced "leavened"!

We began our local library summer reading program today. And along with the sweet smell of the rain, came the warm aroma of bread.

"Give us this day our daily bread." Matthew 6:11

Student Review: In our story, it was about bread. So we did a project of making bread. My favorite part was the mixing and stirring. I was happy, because when I was shaping my dough, I put a fold. And after it was cooked, I still saw the fold that I made.
